Early next year the Southern Gold Coast will welcome thousands of visitors flocking to the region to check out a wide variety of world-class events.
Our advice? Make sure you’re one of them.
You’ll be lucky enough to experience the Gold Coast’s largest arts and culture festival, Bleach*, which coincides with the annual Quiksilver and Roxy Pro World Surf League competitions, based around Coolangatta.
Soundlounge, Currumbin RSL
The region will also play host to a slew of talented live musicians stopping off at the Currumbin RSL’s Soundlounge, as well as a huge variety of local venues boasting shows by regional talent and international superstars.
And, as the new Destination Tweed television spot grandly demonstrates, there’s no better time to take a short trip south of the border into northern New South Wales, where you’ll find untouched, quiet breaches, ancient remnant rainforest and pristine farmlands nestled in quaint country surrounds.
Best of all, if you book a room at Kirra Beach Apartments you’re guaranteed a top-notch spot to kick back, relax and enjoy everything your holiday has to offer, close to all of the action of the Gold Coast – including the revered Quiksilver/Roxy Pro.
One of the top-rated surfing events in the world, the popular competitions, held in late February and early March, pit the world’s best surfers against each other, and the Gold Coast’s sought-after surf and breathtaking beauty make it a natural choice.
Quiksilver Pro
The Quiksilver (male) and Roxy (female) Pro competitions feature some of the most intense match-ups and rivalries in the WSL competition series year on year, and it’s well worth checking out if you’re staying locally. It’s free to watch beachside at the famed Snapper Rocks –one of the most popular surf spots in Southern Queensland. Snapper’s usually packed with amateur surfers, but during the Quiksilver and Roxy Pro, the waters empty and the world’s top boardriders hit the barrels.
Bleach Festival
Bleach* Festival, an iconic Gold Coast event held in March over three weekends, will feature contemporary live music, outdoor and indoor art exhibitions, various film events, street parties, theatre and heaps more. Many events are within walking distance from Kirra Beach Apartments.
A quirky, whimsical (and very popular) event, which has attracted more than 140,000 attendees and about a thousand artists over it’s three year history, Bleach* is a great example of the Gold Coast’s renowned casual atmosphere in action. A cohesive, yet somehow chaotic, affair, the festival impresses year on year with its thought provoking displays and eccentric acts.
It’s something different entirely, and an experience well worth undertaking.
The festival’s organisers describe Bleach* as a travelling road show, a festival and a canvas for Gold Coast culture; and the description rings true. As a welcome bonus, many of the festival’s activities, acts and other facets are located beachside, along Currumbin Beach and other waterside locales, scattered across the Gold Coast’s sunny shores. You couldn’t ask for a better backdrop, really.
Meanwhile, just up the road at Tugun, the Tooloona Street Festival will serve up its usual seasonal storm in 2016; featuring food stalls, live music, cooking demonstrations, local restaurants and an array of cool kids workshops to keep the little ones occupied.
While you’re holidaying in the region, why not take advantage of the sunny summer weather on the Gold and Tweed Coasts? Both regions boast a huge range of scuba diving, wakeboarding, jetskiing and other waterborne experiences.
Combine pristine beaches, top-rated dining and leisure venues and our famous laid-back atmosphere and you won’t find a more appealing holiday hub than Kirra Beach Apartments.
