Whether you want a quite relaxing getaway, or you want a packed holiday full of events and adventure the coast has it all. With the Swell Festival coming up in September, local trampoline centres, theme parks, stunning coastline and a rapidly growing restaurant scene – there is something for everyone. May on the Gold Coast is also host to Blues on Broadbeach and the International Marine Expo, both of which attract both international and interstate visitors.
This month the Gold Coast was lucky enough to host a leg of the Subway Pro Junior Surf Competition. This competition travelled around Aus from Bells Beach, VIC, to Trigg, WA and finished up on the coast. Congratulations to Morgan Cibilic who won the Men’s Junior Tour and Macy Callaghan who won the Women’s Junior Tour.
Swell Festival is celebrating its 15th year, and will be held from the 8th-17th of September. This unique event showcases a range of art, right on the beach. With photography and art workshops, musicians, yoga, claymation – it’s not an event to be missed.
Whether you want to visit in the initial days and vote for your favourite pieces, or you want to go for a twilight or night time stroll on the beach and take in the sights. You’ll want to go back more than once. Most pieces are lit up so the experience changes drastically between day and night.
Swell was launched in 2003 with 23 sculptures in their first festival. 15 years later the festival is seen by 265,000 visitors and showcases work from up to 55 artists, with up to $1 million of art on display. You don’t want to miss it, so start planning you next holiday now.
Have you ever been to an indoor trampoline centre? They are incredibly popular with adults and kids alike. Imagine a room full of trampolines, it’s high energy and an adrenaline rush. There are two places on the coast to try it out. Air Factory Trampoline Park and BounceInc are located in Burleigh and Robina on the Gold Coast respectively.
Fly through the air, get your first slam dunk, play dodgeball, jump on a monster air bag – you’ll tire out the kids, and you’ll have a blast as well. Sessions often sell out so make sure you book in advance.
As the cooler weather kicks in, now’s the time to book in your Winter getaway to the Gold Coast. With crystal clear days, sunshine, and beautiful weather, head north to the coast and enjoy some much needed time away. It’s the perfect time of year to wander the hinterland, explore the local beaches and parks, and visit the big four theme parks.
