Christmas Markets, Lunch & Functions, Quicksilver Roxy Pro

Kirra beach is the perfect spot to stay if you’re looking for a laid back, beach focused holiday. With one of the nicest stretches of beach, and the best surf the Gold Coast has to offer, you’re in for a treat. There is a beautiful walk along the coastline, wonderful food available, and a friendly community of people around. It’s also the best place to stay if you’re in town for the Quicksilver and Roxy Pro’s happening in early March 2017 and there is no better place to celebrate Christmas. It’s also incredibly close to the airport if you’re flying in from out of town.

Markets
marketIf you’re looking for some local markets while you’re on holiday you can’t go past the Coolangatta Art and Craft Market and the Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary’s Farmers Market. The Coolangatta Art and Craft Markets are held on the 2nd Sunday of the Month, and also the 4th Sunday (in 5 week months) – this is the perfect place to pick up some last minute Christmas Gifts and souvenirs for friends and family back home. The farmers markets are also wonderful if you want to pick up some local and farm fresh goodies while you’re in town. These are held on the 1st and 3rd Saturday of the month.

For the surfing fans, you cannot miss the Quicksilver Pro held on the 14th – 15th of March, with the official dates only being released days ago. The area around this event always books out, so make sure you get in quick so you’re close to all the action.

Quicksilver Pro History:
The first Quicksilver Pro event was held in 1996, although it went by the name Billabong Pro in those days (due to sponsorship from Billabong) and it didn’t become the Quicksilver Pro until 2002.

The secret to the waves, which are world renowned, is the unique location of sand (from dredging the Tweed River) and the pointbreak. This unique setup can occasionally cause waves up to 1.5km’s long – there’s no wonder it’s one of the best surf beaches!
