Kirra Beach is one of the best places to stay on the Gold Coast – minutes from the airport, a picturesque and more peaceful beach (away from the hustle and bustle), the best surf spots and a wonderful café and restaurant culture – what more could you want? It’s also the epicentre of the Aussies Surf Lifesaving Championships so if you’re competing or want to cheer on our Aussie heroes, it’s the place to be. It’s also an easy drive to the Sand Safari competition and the Gold Coast International Boat Show & Marine Expo if you are looking for something different.
Aussies Surf Lifesaving Championships
Nothing is more Australian than our Surf Lifesavers, so why not show your support and cheer them on at The Aussies. Witness members from 313 Surf Clubs compete in more than 400 ocean and beach events. Held from March 25th to April 2nd on North Kirra Beach, it’s more than just Australia’s largest annual sporting competition.
Watch events like swimming, boards, boats and skis, knowing that each event also serves the purpose, to save lives. Support those who may one day save your life, or if you’re competing, make sure you are staying close to the action.
If you’re lucky enough to be on the Gold Coast between the 10th -26th of February, you have to check out Sand Safari. Drawing thousands of spectators, this competition is one not to be missed. For the first two days you can watch the artists in action, and vote for your favourite.
Once the competition is over, you still have time to check out the sculptures and explore on your own. Plus, you can even get a little more hands on in various activities and workshops. This years theme is Mermaids and Mythical Creatures, and while most of the exhibits will be showcased in Surfers Paradise, there are also instalments from Tweed Heads to Loganholme – and the best part, the whole event is free!
